Australia’s top 10 easy dinner recipes from the past decade

When it comes to easy dinner recipes, these are the dishes that people return to again and again.

These fragrant, easy, and quick recipes are sure to please.

Classic Shepherd’s Pie

Shepherd’s pie, a classic British and Irish recipe that is loved around the globe, is the ultimate comfort dish. This recipe is made with buttery mashed potato, rich gravy, and lamb mince. It’s a great Sunday dinner that can be on the table within an hour. The addition of Worcestershire Sauce gives the dish a rich, umami taste and a sweet, tangy, and spicy punch at once.

Easy Fried Rice

It’s easy to make fried rice at home. Fried rice is an Australian takeaway staple. While we all have a favorite restaurant where we get it exactly the way we want it, you can easily replicate it yourself. This super-simple version uses pantry and refrigerator staples. But the beauty of the basic fried rice is that it can be adjusted to suit what you have available at the time. Fried rice is a great way to make use of leftover vegetables and proteins. It can also be easily made vegan or vegetarian. It’s easy to make, so kids will love it. This makes it a great family dinner. This is a good way to use leftover rice. Check out the notes section for tips on how to make this fried rice low FODMAP. Check out our easy fried rice recipes, including our healthy oven-baked one-tray fried rice for weeknight convenience. Alison Adams, Food Writer & Recipe Tester, has added some additional notes to the recipe.

Creamy Chicken Pesto Pasta

It’s great to have a recipe in my repertoire that is easy enough to serve to guests but not so easy that they can’t enjoy it. This is my favorite. This creamy chicken pesto recipe can be made in just one pan. The pasta is first cooked and then drained. It’s then returned to the pot. Add the remaining ingredients, and voilà! Dinner is ready. It’s also great that you can use supermarket ingredients like roasted chicken, pesto, and sun-dried tomato sauce, but it still tastes as good as a restaurant. This recipe is also very versatile. You can either double the pesto, eliminate the cream, or serve the dish without the chicken to make a delicious vegetarian main. Alison Adams is a Food Writer, Recipe Tester, and Food Blogger.

Spaghetti marinara

This delicious spaghetti marinara is a great way to include all of your favorite seafood.

Spinach and ricotta cannelloni

We love to make spinach and ricotta stuffed cannelloni for busy school nights. It ticks all the boxes for an easy meal – kid-friendly and a little veg – and is guaranteed to leave empty plates by the end of the evening. Is it any wonder that we always have one on hand and another in the freezer? This recipe saves a lot of time because you don’t need to use individual cannelloni tubes. Instead, we use a fresh lasagne sheet. You can add more vegetables by adding some salad leaves or, for kids, chopped carrots and cherry tomatoes. Check out the links below to find variations of cannelloni that include meats like lamb or beef.

Chicken Enchiladas with Tomato Salsa

Fill tortillas with chicken and top with salsa, cheese, and vegetables. Top with more salsa and cheese, and bake until irresistible.

Sticky Chinese Pork Stir-Fry

Curried sausages

Retro is back! Finally, I’m able to make my shameful love of curried sausage public. It’s a great midweek meal for families and is also easy to prepare. This is my go-to recipe when I want curried sausages. The sweet carrots and fruity chutney are a great match with the spicy curry powder. Curry sausages are great with mashed potatoes or rice. I love to serve it on the couch with thick, buttered slices of bread and the sausages already cut.

Slow-cooked lamb curry

The slow cooker is the best way to prepare this spicy lamb curry.
