A bakery stunned social media by sharing the “correct way” to cut a classic custard dessert – a Vanilla slice.
In a video that’s gone viral, Ferguson Plarre Bakehouse in Melbourne revealed that we have been cutting this Aussie staple the “wrong way our entire lives.”
The bakery labeled this “wrong” way of cutting the dessert, as it caused the custard to ooze out the side.
The “right” way involves turning the dessert over before cutting it, to ensure the vanilla slice is intact.
Many social media users joked that they had never cut dessert before.
Why are you cutting the vanilla slice? One social media user joked on TikTok that they should be eaten whole.
One person said: “Thanks but if you start cutting a Vanilla slice, I’ve already given up on the life. I’m not sharing that.”
Dessert fiends said that the vanilla slice should cut easily, because it is made of crisp pastry. This looks delicious and likely tastes great.
Another shocked user on social media commented: “You mean that I can eat the cookies in a manner that will not squish out all of the custard?”
This is not common knowledge. “Thank you,” a user expressed gratitude.
North End Bakehouse, Shepparton, won the first place in The Great Australian Vanilla Slice Triumph, held in Merbein near Mildura earlier this year.
The bakery posted a picture of its vanilla slice on Facebook when they won.
The name vanilla slice is widely known for this gooey, sweet treat. Victorians call it a “snotblock”.
