After Doritos launched a new flavor that caused controversy, Australians double-checked their calendars to make sure it wasn’t an April Fools joke.
On Thursday, Doritos coriander-flavoured chips were launched. This is arguably the most controversial product launch this year.
Fans accused the brand of making a joke out of its move and were skeptical about it.
Doritos, however, confirmed in a news.com.au statement that the new product is not a joke.
“We’re excited to see the reaction of chip-lovers from across the country as they try our super-limited-edition Doritos Coriander,” chief marketing officer ANZ of PepsiCo Vandita Pandey said.
We know that some Doritos lovers will love it, and others will hate it. Our legendary triangular corn chips are ready to test your taste buds.
Ms Pandey hoped that the controversial flavor would at least spark some discussion.
“As the taste of coriander is one of Australia’s most controversial flavors, we wanted to launch it in chip form. We want to see if the coriander actually tastes like soap. Will it be a sensational success or a soapy failure? “Tag us on social media and let us know what you think,” she said.
The initial reaction of Australians to the post on Instagram revealed two things: they were either disgusted or excited.
“I love coriander.” One reaction said, “It’s the best herbal because it makes all food taste fresh. Plus the look of horror in my husband’s eyes makes it so enjoyable to consume.”
“Oh, my goodness, the coriander I use in everything and everywhere is amazing. “And the smell is amazing; I inhale so hard while chopping it; it’s the best smell,” another person wrote.
Some were more critical and vowed to avoid the candy with a ten-foot pole.
Why would you eat soapy leaves when you could eat better-tasting leaves and leave the soap on the shower? One critic said, “I’d try it and see if I could change my opinion. Maybe it will clean my insides.”
Another said, “It tastes like soap so why not wash yourself from the inside?”
Some people were so excited about the launch that they “forgave” Doritos not having Cool Ranch flavor currently in Australia.
“Okay, this partially makes up for not having Cool Ranch. But I’m willing temporarily to forgive. So eager to try. “But I’ll give the absolute of freakouts when CR comes back,” wrote one fan in a comment.
I must try them! “I literally eat the coriander from the herb garden,” wrote another.
Doritos Coriander, a limited-edition product, will not be sold.
Fans can only win a Doritos pack through a giveaway on Doritos’ Instagram page. Australians who want to win a bag will have to leave a comment on the Doritos Instagram page.
